1.What is a presentation?
  • Presentation are one of the most powerful and effective ones.
  • In a presentation, we can include a variety of items such as text,audio, hand-drawn, images and videos.
2.What are the uses of presentations?
  • The application provides various tools that allow us to save and modify presentations, print them as handouts, and view presentations as slide shows or HTML pages.
  • It also allows us to import and modify Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.
3.What is a slide show?
A slide show is a series of slides, or pages, that present
information on a specific topic.
4.What are the options available in presentation wizard of StarOffice Impress?
Three options are in the Presentation Wizard,
(a)An empty presentation,
(b)From template
(c)Open an existing presentation.

6.What is manual presentation?
  • Default option allows us to manually control the transition of slides using mouse clicks.
7.What is automatic presentation?
The Automatic option allows us to specify the duration for each slide and will automatically flip through the slides at the specified speed.
8.What is the use of Duration of page?
The Duration of page spin box allows us to specify the duration for the slides.
9.What is the use of Duration of pause?
The Duration of pause spin box allows us to specify the duration for which the presentation will pause before it starts again.
10.What is Show Logo?
Checking the Show Logo check box will display the message, “Created with StarOffice” during the pause between each presentation.
12.How will we create a new presentation?
To create a new presentation, using a template,
  • Choose File ->New ->Templates and Documents or
  • Press Shift + Ctrl + N.
Using a Wizard, Choose File-> New -> Presentation
16.What is use of Normal view in presentation?
The Normal view in presentation allows us to create and edit slides.
17.What is the use of Outline view in presentation?
The Outline view in presentation allows us to reorder slides, edit slide titles and heading.



18.What is the use of Notes view of presentation?
  • The Notes view allows us to add notes to the slides or view any existing notes for the slide.
  • Notes are typically used by a presenter to add additional information to a slide.
19.What is the use of Handouts view of presentation?
  • The handouts view allows us to scale the slides so that several slides can fit into a page.
  • This view is typically used when the presentation is to be printed and distributed as a handout
20.What is the use of Slide sorter view of presentation?
  • The Slide sorter view allows us to view miniature images of all the slides in the presentation.
  • The Slide sorter view is also used to re-arrange slides.
  • The tasks pane on the right displays four pages that allow us to specify the master slide, layout, transitions and animations effects from the objects on our slides.
21.What is the use of Master page of presentation?
  • The Master page can be used to specify basic background information that needs to be included in all the sides.
For example, you can insert a company logo to the master slide and it will appear in all the slides.

The Layouts displays the various layouts provided by StarOffice Impress.
We can choose a layout while creating a new slide.
23.What is the use of Custom Animation in presentation?
The Custom Animation displays various options that allow us to add or modify animation effects to elements of a slide.

  • The Slide Transition displays various transition effects that can be attached to a slide along with other options that allow us to control the transition of the slides.
  • Note that we can have a different transition for each slide in the presentation.
25.How will we Save a slide show?
To save a presentation do any one of the following:
(a)Click on File ->Save option. (b)Press the icon.
(c)Press Ctrl + S.
26.How will we start a slide show?
The following are the ways to start a presentation:
(a)Click the Slide Show icon.
(b)Slide show -> Slide Show.
(c)Press F5.
27.How will we launch a slide show on the screen?
The on-screen presentation starts automatically in the full-screen mode.
  • If we click once, the second slide will be displayed.
  • After the last side, we will see a black slide.
  • End the presentation by pressing the Escape key.
28.Can we adjust the setting of a presentation?
  • Yes, we can adjust the setting of presentation.
  • Presentation setting can be adjusted under the Slide show ->Slide show settings.
  • After going to this, a dialog box appears and we can do the change show wherever necessary.

29.How can we display a presentation?
  • Select All Slides, if we want to display all the slides else
  • select From option and select the page from which we want to display.
30.How can we customize a slide show?
  • To run a custom slide show in the order that we defined in Slide Show ->Custom Slide show.
31.How will we insert a slide?
  • To insert a slide, click the Slide button in the presentation toolbar or choose Insert ->Slide from the menu bar.
  • The new slide uses the page layout of the previous slide.
32.How will we delete a slide?
  • If we want to delete a slide, select the slide, which we want to delete in the Slides Pane and press Delete key or right click on the slide and choose Delete slide.
33.How will we rename a slide?
  • To rename a slide, select the slide, which we want to rename and choose Slide ->Rename Slide or right click on the slide and choose Rename slide.
34.Can we change the order of the slide?
Yes, To change the slide order,
  • click the Slide sorter in the switching presentation view tab.
  • A slide sorter window opens.
  • In this mode, all slides in the presentation document are displayed in reduced size.
  • Click the slide if we want to move and drag it with the mouse to the desired position.
  • A vertical black bar indicates the position where the slide will be inserted.
35.How will we insert pictures in a presentation?
To insert a picture in a slide,
Choose Insert ->Picture - >From File or click the Insert Picture icon from the insert tool bar.
Choose the desired picture from the open dialog box.
36.How will we include a movie / sound in a presentation?
To insert a Movie in a slide,
  • choose Insert ->Movie and Sound or click the Insert Movie and Sound icon from the Insert toolbar.
37.How will we play a movie/sound in an impress presentation?
To play a movie or sound file in an Impress presentation, do the following steps:
(a)Open the slide that contains the movie or sound file.
(b)Click the object icon for the movie or sound file on the slide.
(c)Click Play on the Media Play back tool bar.
38.Define Media player in StarOffice Impress?
  • StarOffice Impress enables Media Player where we can preview movie and sound files as well as insert these files into the current presentation slide.
  • The Media player supports many different media formats.

StarOffice Impress provides tools for inserting objects like charts, formula, etc., in a presentation.
To Insert an object in a slide,
Choose an object from Insert ->Object.
The formula icon is used for inserting formula into the presentation for performing calculations.
40.What is the use of slide view in slide transition?
The number of slides in the Slide view changes according to the number specified in the Slides Per Row spin box.
The Slide view displays the slides in certain numbers specified in the Slides Per Row spin box.

  • We can assign a whole set of Presentation Styles to our slides is known as presentation Style..
  • It is a list of the pre-defined styles.
  • We can modify the existing styles and we can create new styles.
42.How will we start a custom slide show?
To start a custom slide show:
  • Choose Slide Show ->Custom slide show.
  • Select the slide show, we want to start from the list.
  • Click Start.
Note: check whether the Use Custom Slide Show check box is selected.
43.How will we start a slide show from current slide?
To start a slide show from the current slide?
(a)Choose Tools ->Options->StarOffice Impress->General.
(b)In the start presentation area, select Always with current pages check box.
Note: Do not select this option if we want to run a custom slide show.

(b)Choose Slide Show ->Show / Hide slide.
The slide number is struck out, but it is not removed from our presentation.

  • To show a hidden slide select the slide(s) that we want to hide from the Slide Pane.
  • Choose Slide Show -> Show / Hide Slide to show the slide in the slide show.

  • Choose Slide Show -> Custom Slide Shows
  • Click on New.
Custom Slide shows dialog box appears
  • Enter a name for your slide show in the Name box.
  • Select the slides and Click the >> button.
  • Hold down Shift to select a range of slides, or Ctrl to select multiple slides.
To change the order of the slides
Drag and drop the slides under Selected Slides. Click Ok.
51.What is meant by “Rehearse Timings”?
  • StarOffice assists you in defining the right rehearse timings for automatic slide changes.
  • StarOffice records the display time for each slide, so the next time you play the show with automatic slide changes, the timing will be as recorded
52. How will you record a show with rehearse timing?
To record a show with rehearse timings:
• Open a presentation, and switch to Normal View.
• select Slide Show-> Rehearse Timings
Now you see the first slide and a timer in the bottom left corner
• When it is time to advance to the next slide, click the timer. Continue for all slides in your Presentation.
• StarOffice has recorded the display time for each slide.
• If you want the whole presentation to auto-repeat,
Select Slide Show ->Slide Show Settings. A window appears
• Select Auto and then click OK.
