III. Correcting Spelling Mistakes

1.How to correct the mistakes while typing in SO Writer?
  • StarOffice Writer includes a dictionary and spell-check program to check for possible spelling mistakes even as a entire document is being typed.
  • This feature can be turned ON or OFF by clicking on the Auto Spellcheck icon.
When Auto Spell-check feature is ON,
  • StarOffice Writer compares each word type with the words in the dictionary and underlines words with a squiggly red line that do not match
The mistakes can be corrected in two ways.
1. Backspace key is pressed to delete a misspelled word and the word is retyped.
2. Right click on the misspelled word.
A pop up menu appears on the screen.
If the correct spelling is shown, a click is made on that word.
StarOffice Writer makes the replacement.
2.How to Check& correct the Spelling after the Document is Typed?
Click on Tools -> Spelling -> Check ( or)
Click on Spellcheck icon
Press F7 key
The Spelling check dialog box appears
Not in dictionary text area displays the misspelled word
Suggestions list displays any alternative spellings.
Any of the following can be done:
To skip the word
  • To skip current occurrence but stop on the next one. Ignore Once button is clicked.
  • To skip all occurrences of the word. Ignore All button is clicked.
To replace the word
  • Select a word in the suggestions list and click Change button.
  • To replace all occurrences of the word , click Change All button
If none of the replacements is correct,
  • correction can be made manually in the Not in dictionary text area.
  • Add button is clicked to add the word to the dictionary.
3.How would you add a word in the AutoCorrect list of the Staroffice Writer?StarOffice Writer recognises some common misspellings and typographical mistakes and makes the replacement automatically.
This option is called Autocorrect option
To create Autocorrect entry
  • click on Tools -> Autocorrect
  • In Autocorrect dialog box,
  • Select the Replace tab,
  • The word to be replaced is typed in the Replace text box
  • The replacement word in the With text box.
